As a home roaster, you may wonder if you are able to sell the coffee that you roast to the public. The short answer is that it depends.

The ability to sell coffee that you roast from home is based upon what is allowed in your local city and state. You’ll need to contact your local health department and/or other food handling departments for details.

Some cities will allow it if you meet specific requirements, pass inspections, and obtain proper licensing and permits.

Others may not allow it at all and you’ll be required to rent or buy a commercial space for roasting coffee for resale.
